Barcroft Youth F.C. was set up over 25 years ago by John Green who brought the club from strength to strength winning numerous Carnbane League trophies as well as competing for years in the Mid Ulster League. With John at the helm Barcroft competed in tournaments in the Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and in an Under 18 tournament in Italy in which the club took on the likes of Hadjuk Split of Croatia. In 2001 the club came out winners in the Italy Tournament, which was such an honour however it was a major honour in the first place to be asked to represent Ireland. Around 3 years ago John decided to step down as chairman of the club and the reins were handed over to John Cinnamond. BYFC cater for over 150 children Hilltown to Forkhill and from Atticall to Poyntzpass and all areas in between. This current season the club has 11 managers with 11 teams competing from under 9's to under 16. This season Barcroft has 2 under 9 teams, an under 10 team as well as two under 11 teams, which will be playing 7 a-side football in the Carnbane League. This year Barcroft for the first time in 3 years has decided to enter three teams into the Mid Ulster league, the under 12, 14 and an under 16 team will be travelling every morning to play in areas such as Lurgan, Armagh and Portadown. Last year was a great season for Barcroft who won 2 Carnbane League titles as well as 5 cup winners titles. Throughout the years many great players have come through the Barcroft ranks including Paul McCrink who recently signed a professional contract with Championship outfit Coventry City FC. Paul also regularly features for many Northern Ireland junior teams including the under 19 squad for whom he scored in this years Milk Cup. Collie Keenan went overseas to Derby while Steven Ferguson played for Leeds; however both returned home and now ply their trade with Newry City FC. Hugh Davey currently plays for UCD in the Eircom Premier League while previously played for Blackburn as well as Republic of Ireland under 21s. Other Barcroft players have featured for Northern Ireland junior teams including Damian Rafferty while numerous Barcroft players have featured in the annual Milk Cup tournaments, the majority for County Armagh while some for County Down. With this years Milk Cup, Barcroft had the honour of two players making the Armagh under 14 squad; Danny Cinnamond and Karl McVerry both featured will throughout the competition. Many other former Barcroft players regularly play Irish League football, plying their trade with Newry, Banbridge or Armagh City. With the foundations the club has it is hoped it can thrive from success to success while not forgetting the clubs main goal which is providing youngsters with the chance to play football.
